The idea for the video came from Frannie Brown, in which her mother Christine played a role.

An 880-year-old bed and breakfast has gone viral after adopting a Generation Z approach to its advertising.

Fyfield Manor, near Wallingford in Oxfordshire, posted a video on its TikTok page on Monday with the caption: “When you ask your Gen Z daughter to write the marketing script.”

The video, which the B&B describes as “zen-inducing” and “very understated,” has since been viewed 9.4 million times.

The mother-daughter team behind the video said they were “surprised” by the reaction to the video.

Frannie Brown said she came up with the idea after seeing similar videos on the platform.

“There were several accounts that I liked where people were filming their dads just walking around the supermarket and stuff, and it's kind of funny because it's typical of the older generation,” the 26-year-old told the BBC.

When she came up with the idea, she suggested it to her mother Christine.

Christine said: “I'm open to anything because I've been running the B&B for years and it's easy to get into a rut and I get some really nice people coming to visit me, but I felt like I needed to try something new.”

“Most of the visitors are of the older generation and I thought it would be nice if we tried to attract younger people as well.”

In the video, Christine can be heard describing the special features of the B&B, saying that she “understood the task” and that it is 880 years old, “no upper limit”.

She also describes a medieval dining room as “with a lot of verve”.

“I just fell in love [Frannie’s] hands and did what I was told and I'm just amazed. As a member of the older generation, I can't believe so many people like it,” Christine said.

“I didn’t even know what the words meant!”

The 880-year-old building has been run as a B&B by Christine and her family for 25 years.

“The positive thing for me is that it's an old house and I'm part of the older generation. Plus, we've had young people here who had seen previous TikTok videos – and they love it,” she said.

Christine ends the viral video by saying, “Whether you're looking to unwind from a summer of brats or a busy day, this is the place for you. Do it right!”
