Ravens' Ronnie Stanley was annoyed about numerous penalties against him

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Baltimore Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley felt like he was being singled out by the referees during Thursday night’s 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Stanley was cautioned three times for illegal positioning. On the second play of the game, he was penalized without warning from the referees.

“I thought it would be a little different,” Stanley said. “And the way it went down in the game, I really felt like they were just trying to make an example and they picked me for it. From what I saw, they didn't do it on both sides of the ball, and I know I was in a good position for most of those decisions. But we'll go back and watch the film and make sure and send it in. [to the league office].”

After the game, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said teams had been informed that illegal lineup play would be a focus this season, but Baltimore emphasized that Kansas City was not penalized once for illegal lineup play, while the Ravens were penalized five times.

“I look at their tackles, especially on the right side, and I know I'm in front of that guy,” Stanley said. “And they haven't called him once. That makes me feel a little bit crazy, [that] I don't know where to line up. I think we'll watch the film. They just need to be held accountable if that's what it is. If it's so egregious that they're making those calls – and they shouldn't be – they should be held accountable.”

Last season, Stanley was penalized 11 times, but not once for illegal lineup. In addition to Stanley, offensive tackle Patrick Mekari and wide receiver Rashod Bateman were also penalized for illegal lineup on Thursday.

“It will be interesting to see if they call it the same thing all season,” Harbaugh said. “I challenge them to call it the same thing all season long as they called it tonight. Hopefully they stay consistent with that.”
