Since its launch in 1984, the package was previously broadcast by satellite service DirecTV. Google, which owns YouTube and live-streaming service YouTube TV, acquired the rights to the package in December 2022, outbidding Amazon and ESPN and paying about $2 billion annually over seven years, according to the Wall Street Journal.
