Phoenix police officer Zane Coolidge in critical condition after shooting

According to officials, the police officer seriously injured in a shooting in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday is still in critical condition, while the other injured officer is recovering at home.

Phoenix police identified the seriously injured officer as Zane Coolidge, a five-year member of the department who works for the field training unit in the Mountain View Precinct.

The other officer, Matthew Haney, was spared serious injury thanks to his bulletproof vest. Haney has been with the department for two years and is part of the same force and precinct as Coolidge. Haney is recovering from his injuries at home with his family, who asked for privacy.

Saul Bal, 41, was arrested on suspicion of shooting at police officers who responded to calls about a car break-in in the area of ​​16th and Brill Streets around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
