Alabama High School Football Games of the Week: September 5-7

The second week of Alabama high school football saw significant changes in the top 25 rankings, and an impressive list for week three could see that happen again.

Top 10 teams Pursue, Auburn, Hewitt-Trussville And Hillcrest will all compete against each other in ranked duels this week.

Below are this week's high school football games in Alabama.

#12 Opelika at #2 Auburn — Friday, September 6
Opelika is 2-0 this season after a 48-13 win over Callaway (Ga.) — the Bulldogs have allowed just 27 points in two games, with a strong defense led by Auburn's top-100 defensive line commit Malik Autry. Auburn is undefeated this year after crushing a top-ranked Vestavia Hills team 52-17 last week. Tigers senior quarterback Jackson Kilgore was 21 of 28 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Auburn narrowly escaped with a 31-30 road win in Opelika last year.

#7 Enterprise at #11 Dothan — Friday, September 6
Enterprise's graduating class is packed with Power 4 talent – a top 75 defensive back Eric Winters committed to Auburn, four-star EDGE Zion Grady is committed to Ohio State and cornerback Andrew Purcell is committed to Kentucky. They made it easy Andalusia in Week 1 with a 35-7 win and Pike Street 24-6 on the weekend. Dothan defeated Monroe (Ga.) 49-21 last week to move to 2-0 on the season after three rushing touchdowns from AJ AlexanderDothan defeated Enterprise last season in a close game, 21-14.

#6 Hewitt-Trussville at #22 Vestavia Hills — Friday, September 6
Hewitt-Trussville beats Gadsden City 42-14 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Senior quarterback Noah Dobbins threw the ball almost perfectly, completing 9 of 10 passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Vestavia Hills lost to Auburn 52-17. Hewitt-Trussville defeated Vestavia Hills 55-17 last season.

#16 Hoover at #10 Hillcrest — Friday, September 6
Hoover lost in a heartbreaking game 39-37 against Spain Park last week. Close games have defined the Buccaneers’ season so far, as they beat western (Florida) 17-14 in week one. Junior quarterback Noah Schuback leads the offense with classmate and three-star wide receiver Jonah Winston Hillcrest has scored at least 30 points in each of its first two games and is first Florence 32-20 and then Sparkman 31-10.

#15 Daphne at #25 Mary G Montgomery — Friday, September 6
Daphne's defense has allowed just 16 and 7 points in the first two games of the season, and that defense is led by Ole Miss defensive line commit Talib GrahamMary G Montgomery is 1-1 this year after losing to tempo (Fla.) in the first week, but recovered last week against Gulf Coast with a 21-17 win. Daphne lost 34-7 to Mary G Montgomery a year ago.
