NFL DFS: Best plays of Week 1 (Fantasy Football)

Each week we'll review some of the content from DFS Pass and discuss some of our most confident plays ahead of Sunday. A lot can change over the weekend, especially with injury news (see Betz's Injury Blitz podcast) and changing roster percentages that change who's in or out before the roster lockout. Let's go over that again.

Locked Cash Games

Borg – The price may seem daunting, but that's a lower price for Tyreek Hill than we're used to. He's given it his all in Week 1 in the past, and in a near-50-point game environment, I want to build in highs in cash as well. His receiving line (98.5) is ridiculously high, except when you consider what he's done in his career:

  • 2016: 14% snaps, 1 touchdown…but scores a TD.
  • 2017: 7/133/1
  • 2018: 7/169/2
  • 2019: 18% drop out and get injured
  • 2020: 5/46/1
  • 2021: 19.11.7.1
  • 2022: 8/94/0
  • 2023: 215.11.2

Ignore the price because you know the QB position is valuable and there are RBs for $6,000 so you can stomach his price tag.

Betz – Yoshi szn! Andrei Iosivas was already on our radar as a pure punt player ($3,000) before we got the news about Tee Higgins. Higgins (hamstring) is questionable, while Ja'Marr Chase's (contract) status is in limbo. Either way, there's a path for Yoshi to play an every-down role with Joe Burrow. Playing him with cash unlocks the rest of your lineup.

DraftKings Core Games

These are the 3-5 players at each position we've shuffled into our cash player pool. Due to salaries, recent news, and budget constraints, you're guaranteed not to be able to fit all of them. But their high minimums and team implied totals make them great players for the week, both in cash and GPPs.

These are simply the preferred core players in order. You obviously won't be able to fit all of them in a cash lineup and there are salary tradeoffs when paying more for each position.

For us, it's a neck-and-neck race between Anthony Richardson, who led all quarterbacks in fantasy points per dropback a year ago, and Kyler Murray, who averaged over 20 fantasy points per game in his healthy starts throughout his career. Both guys can run and have great weapons at their disposal in game environments we like.

NOTE – Russell Wilson is listed as questionable due to a calf injury. If he's out, Justin Fields ($5,000) would be our best cash game QB on the list.
