Angel Reese accuses Caitlin Clark fans of harassment: “People came to my address”

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are simultaneously enjoying two of the best rookie seasons in WNBA history, and this is just the latest chapter in their story together.

According to Reese, this past has led to bad behavior from Clark's fans toward her.

In the first episode of her new podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” Reese was asked by co-host Maya Reese (no relation) about Clark, with whom she clashed twice during their college years. Reese gave special praise to Clark before claiming that her fans have harassed her in various ways, including death threats, following her home and using artificial intelligence to create nude photos of her, some of which have been sent to her family.

Reese's comments:

“Caitlin is an incredible player and I've always thought she was an incredible player. We've been playing against each other since high school. I think it's really just the fans – her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans – that are rooting for her and I respect that, respectfully, but sometimes it's very disrespectful.

“I think there's a lot of racism when it comes to that, and I don't think she owns up to it. But as far as death threats, I'm talking about people coming to my address and following me home, that's what it came down to. On several occasions, people have taken AI pictures of me, literally naked. They've sent them to my family members. My family members, so uncles, send them to me, like, 'Oh, are you naked on Instagram?'”

“It's horrible to see and it's really hard that I have to go through this and now I see other players going through this too.”

Reese reiterated her respect for Clark and even promised that they would become teammates one day:

At the end of the day, it's a game we both love, but there's no hate. I'm sure we'll be on the same team one day. We'll definitely be on the same team one day.”

Clark has quickly become the biggest name in women's basketball, which has had a positive impact on the league's ratings but less on the volume of discussion surrounding her. Months ago, she condemned “fans” who used her name to push intolerant agendas against their opponents.

Reese and the Chicago Sky in particular have claimed to see the ugly side of the attention Clark has received, especially after Chennedy Carter hit Clark with an unnecessary shoulder check and refused to take questions about it. It was one of many hard fouls Clark has picked up this season.

While many condemned Carter's behavior during and after the game, the team claimed one person went a step further and harassed her at a team hotel. A later video showed that person simply trying to ask Carter questions, but a Sky player said the video was edited to remove his statements to much more obscene language such as “ghetto bitch.”

Another Sky player, Diamond DeShields, raced into Clark's body and later shared that they had hoped her spinal tumor would return.

Reese and LSU defeated Clark's Iowa team in the national championship game last year, with Reese making national headlines after famously taunting Clark in the game's final seconds. Clark's fame has continued to rise since then, and Reese with her.

The discussion surrounding the two players has become even louder now that they are the clear top two players in the race for WNBA Rookie of the Year honors. Clark is the favorite as she is on pace to record the most assists ever in a WNBA season, the third-most 3-pointers made, the only two rookie triple-doubles in WNBA history, and lead the Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

However, Reese already holds the WNBA season record for most rebounds and the longest double-double streak in the league.

The WNBA would have wanted both players to become stars, and so far that wish has been granted. However, there has also been turmoil in the story, and it is not fair to either player that Reese has to deal with her allegations.
