USC returns home with a huge season-opening win under its belt to host Utah State on a sweltering Saturday night.

Game 2: “A heat wave is coming. Too hot to think clearly, too cold to panic.”

The USC Trojans (1-0) – Ranked 13th by Associated Press and 14th by USA Today Coaches Poll – begin their 2024 home schedule against the Mountain West Conference Utah State Aggies on Saturday, September 7, at 8 p.m. PDT at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and in front of a national television audience on the Big Ten Network. The Trojans are 28.5-point favorites as of Thursday night. USC is 6-0 against Utah State, including a 45-7 win in 2016, the last time they met. The Trojans are 103-19-7 in home openers. Utah State is 1-30 against Big Ten opponents in its history, defeating Wisconsin in 1968.

On Sunday night, the USC defense made a number of important stops against a talented LSU Attack, allowing the Trojans to overcome a four-point deficit early in the fourth quarter with two touchdown runs – the second ending with Woody markings' 13-yard run with eight seconds left in the game – and gave the then 23rd-ranked Trojans a 27-20 victory over the then 13th-ranked LSU at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The fourth-year junior quarterback Müller Moos completed 75 percent of his passes for 378 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown for the sophomore Ja'Kobi Lane.

USC's defense held the Tigers' offense to three yards on six carries in the fourth quarter and made two key fourth-down stops under new defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn's anticipated debut. Last Saturday, the Aggies opened their season with a 36-14 home victory over FCS opponents Robert Morris in Logan, Utah. Utah State managed 646 yards on offense (343 passes, 303 carries), but three interceptions by its quarterbacks ensured that the score was closer than it should have been.
