5 injured after shooting on I-75 in Kentucky, search for suspect continues at dawn

Five people were seriously injured in a shooting on I-75 north of London, Kentucky, on Saturday.

On Saturday around 5:30 p.m., Laurel County Sheriff's officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim on I-75 at Exit 49.

When officers arrived, they found that nine vehicles had been shot at on I-75 north and south.

Five people were seriously injured and taken to a local hospital by emergency services.

Sheriff's deputies, the Sheriff's Office Special Operations Unit, London Metropolitan Police and Kentucky State Police worked to secure the scene.

I-75 was closed for several hours “for safety reasons due to the danger to passing vehicles in the area of ​​the shooting,” the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.

32-year-old Joseph A. Couch of Woodbine, KY was identified as a person of interest in connection with the shooting.

Couch is described as being 5'10″ tall and weighing about 150 pounds. The search for Couch continues.

“This individual is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Call 911,” the sheriff's Facebook post said.

According to the sheriff's office, the crime scene will be cordoned off overnight.

The active search and further investigation will begin at dawn on Sunday morning.
