Honour ride aims to raise awareness of motorcycle safety following the death of a man from Lisbon

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The family of a Lisbon man who died while riding a motorcycle in Marion in June continues to advocate for greater safety awareness in motorcycle riding.

A Ride to Remix Honor Ride will be held Sunday morning in Aaron Gerbo's honor. His family hopes the ride will remind people to take a few extra seconds on the road to watch for motorcyclists.

The ride begins at the Eagles Club in Iowa City.

From there, cyclists will ride 110.2 miles to commemorate the time of the accident, June 14 at 11:02 a.m.

There are five stops along the journey.

The trip ends at the Tin Roof in Lisbon.

“We will be having a motorcycle auction for Aaron's Dyna. Then we will have a huge selection of 50/50 silent auction items, some great food items that include some of Aaron's recipes from his restaurant. Aaron owned those restaurants and has the recipes, so we will be offering some of his spice blends. We will also have a cookbook of Aaron's recipes that will be exclusive to this event,” said Ruth Peterson, Aaron Gerbo's sister.

Money raised from this year's ride will benefit Aaron's family and help cover the medical and funeral expenses they have incurred since the accident.

“We've had a lot of discussion about whether future rides should benefit the Iowa Donor Network,” Peterson said. “Aaron's hero run went viral on Tik Tok, which gave us the opportunity to highlight the importance of organ donation. His donation is saving countless lives.”

Check-in at the meeting point is at 9:30am on Sunday morning at the Eagles Club. Racks will be set up at 11am.

Everyone is welcome to join in by motorbike or car.
