Man hides in bushes after police chase ends in accident

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A 34-year-old Evansville man was arrested on numerous charges Saturday afternoon following a brief police chase.

Evansville Police officers said they were flagged down by a passerby who said two men were fighting in the area between N. Garvin Street and E. Michigan Street.

Officers said they arrived at the area with the overhead lights on and saw a shirtless man, later identified as Bobby W. Dyson, getting into a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck.

According to police, Dyson deliberately drove into a gravel road, which led to a short chase with police.

According to police, Dyson's truck began to swerve and then crashed into a power pole and a garage.

As officers approached the vehicle, they found that Dyson had fled the scene.

With the help of neighbors, officers said they found Dyson hiding under a bush near the accident scene.

Dyson told police he panicked after officers saw him arguing with his friend because he had recently been released on parole.

According to an affidavit, Dyson admitted he knew police were trying to stop him.

When searching the truck, officers said they found a silver grinder containing marijuana and a scale.

Dyson was taken to the hospital before being booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail later that evening.

The officers point out that he is a notorious traffic offender.

According to EPD, the power pole he hit broke off and the garage was damaged.

Dyson faces resisting law enforcement, hit and run, felony traffic violation, possession of paraphernalia, reckless driving causing property damage, and other administrative charges.
