Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill sent a message to Chris Jones after news of his contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs broke.

Tyreek Hill was arrested outside Hard Rock Stadium before the Miami Dolphins' season-opening game on September 8. A video that has now circulated online shows the brutal incident in which police surrounded the wide receiver and brought him to the ground.

ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques reported that the incident occurred near a block outside the stadium on Sunday morning. Reporter Jeff Darlington provided more details, noting that Hill got into a verbal altercation with officers.

“Sources tell me Tyreek Hill has been charged with reckless driving for his incident with police outside the stadium,” the ESPN reporter shared in a post on X. “After being pulled over, he got into a verbal altercation with police. The officer handcuffed Hill. He was charged and released after the situation was deescalated.”

ESPN's Adam Schefter shared video of Hill's arrest outside the stadium, showing police grabbing the Dolphins wide receiver and bringing him to the ground. An officer appears to knee Hill in the lower back while twisting his arm behind him to handcuff him.

Tyreek Hill has to pay

Louis-Jacques reported that Hill is eligible to play in the team's season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was the team's best wide receiver and one of the best in the NFL. Last season, he caught 119 balls for a league-high 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Hill's agent Drew Rosenhaus spoke out against the player's arrest in an interview with ESPN, calling it a “heartbreaking situation” and saying the detention was “completely unnecessary.” Rosenhaus questioned the need to handcuff Hill during detention, saying it was an “unfathomable” decision.

“We'll investigate,” Rosenhaus told ESPN. “We'll keep an eye out for Tyreek.”

Hill has had legal trouble before, noted Rohan Nadkarni of NBC News.

“In 2014, Hill was arrested for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and pleaded guilty to domestic violence,” the report said. “In 2019, he was investigated by Kansas City police for an alleged assault incident involving his then-3-year-old son, although no charges were filed and the NFL did not discipline Hill.”

Tyreek Hill expects to be in the spotlight in 2024

Hill said before the start of the 2024 season that he expects teammate Jaylen Waddle to be the team's best receiver, saying he has “taken his game to a new level in the classroom” and is ready to put the hard work into action.

“He went to the back of the classroom with me and River. [Cracraft]. So he's sitting next to us now,” Hill told Pro Football Network. “He's asking more questions, which is great. He's very eager to get better. And for me, I think that starts with taking your game to the next level as a receiver with less than ideal size.”

Hill added that Waddle, who is entering his fourth NFL season, is eager to learn from himself and other veterans.

“You're fast, you're nervous, you have to be able to do it in the classroom and he did a great job, you know, he took coach Wes' advice [Welker] … and all the older guys in our room,” Hill said. “I expect All-Pro, WR1 and all that. Lead our team.”
