Mike McDaniel announces whether Dolphins LB Jaelan Phillips will play against the Jaguars on Sunday

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida. – Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel provided the latest update on edge defender Jaelan Phillips’ game status during a press conference on Wednesday.

McDaniel confirmed that Phillips will return to the field when Miami hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, but he will only play a snap count position.

This will be his first game since tearing his Achilles tendon against the New York Jets in the NFL's first-ever Black Friday game on November 24 in Week 12.

The star edge rusher has been inching closer to his return since being activated from the PUP (Physical Disability) list in mid-August.

Phillips, 25, a first-round draft pick in 2021 who played part of his college career with the Miami Hurricanes, recorded 43 tackles and 6.5 sacks before suffering a season-ending injury.

Despite missing most of the season, Phillips was on pace to set career highs in sacks, tackles and penalties drawn.

Kickoff for Fins-Jags is on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium.
