“We are aware of the recent arrest of Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill by officers of the Miami-Dade Police Department,” Stephanie V. Daniels said in a post on the Miami-Dade Police Department's social media. “I have requested an immediate review of all the details of the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

Social media exploded with footage showing the Dolphins' star receiver being handcuffed a block from Hard Rock Stadium just hours before Miami opened the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hill was seen facedown on the ground while police officers placed their hands behind his back.

Several teammates witnessed the incident and stopped to offer their support. After being briefly detained, Hill was released and made his way to the stadium.

The 30-year-old has had several other run-ins with the law in 2014, 2019 and 2023. He pleaded guilty to domestic violence against his pregnant girlfriend and was investigated by Kansas City police for an alleged assault incident involving his son. He was not disciplined for the incident involving his son.

Hill is expected to play today, and his absence from the game would have been a major setback for the Dolphins.

If the Dolphins had been missing their star receiver to start the season, Miami's plans to start the year with a win would likely have been thwarted.

Drew Rosenhaus, Hill's agent, spoke to CBS' Mike Cugno about the incident.

“I'm still looking for answers,” Rosenhaus said. “Tyreek was arrested. The police inexplicably handcuffed him for violating traffic laws when he entered the stadium on game day. A surreal situation. I'm extremely upset about it. Thank God Tyreek is OK. We will investigate the police's conduct after the fact and not make any accusations now. We will leave that to Tyreek's legal team. It was a very traumatic situation. We pulled ourselves together. He will play today.”

Hill is one of the best receivers in the league, recording 119 catches for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is entering his third season with the Dolphins.

Hill and his counterpart Jaylen Waddle have changed Miami's offense.

The receiver duo is expected to be among the best in the league this season as the Dolphins hunt for a playoff spot.

In 2023, Miami faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round, but is hoping for revenge this year.
