Open thread question of the day: Who will be the shooting star in week 1?

Can you feel it? There is a chill in the air. The students are back in class. The leaves are threatening to change color. Football is back. The rhythms were restored.

We've spent five full months listening to prognosticators (like me) blather on about predictions that range from lukewarm to scalding hot. It's a fun exercise we all participate in to pass the time between our slow summer days. But it's fall again, and the best part about all of our predictions is that in a few short days, none of them will matter anymore. A team with high hopes will fall flat on its face. A team with low expectations will surprise everyone else. These are rhythms no one can predict.

Still, let's try a different prediction. It's no secret that the Chicago Bears have an impressive collection of young, established talent like Jaylon Johnson, Montez Sweat, DJ Moore, and Teven Jenkins. They also have a number of young players with big expectations – Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze, Darnell Wright, and Tyrique Stevenson spring to mind.

But every year there's a player who announces himself in Week 1. Who can forget Dante Pettis' wild touchdown catch against the Niners in 2022? Or Tarik Cohen, who rushed for over 100 yards from the line of scrimmage as a fourth-round rookie against the Falcons in 2017? There's almost always a surprise performance.

So who do you think will be the shooting star in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans?

My answer? Tyler Scott.

The second-year pro from Cincinnati had a difficult rookie season, receiving 7 passes for just 116 yards. His most memorable moments in 2023 were big drops. Still, the word in camp is that Scott has made great strides after having a full offseason to train.

DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze have rightfully dominated the headlines in the wide receiver room, and while I think each of them will have good games in Week 1, I believe Scott is the one to completely break the game open with a 40+ yard pass. A play like that will quickly mask any stench of last season's misdeeds.

Now it's your turn: Who do you think will be the shooting star in week 1?
