Buccaneers opponents make puzzling decision before Week 1

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face an up-and-coming football team in the Washington Commanders, who have a new head coach in Dan Quinn, a new rookie quarterback in Jayden Daniels, and many more opportunities to overtake virtually every other team.

Unfortunately, not everything is going according to plan for Washington after being selected number 2 in this year's draft, which could give the Buccaneers' defensive line a treat on Sunday.

Quinn spoke to the Washington media on Friday as the game approached and revealed that the team will not have just one player at left tackle. Instead, oddly enough, they will rotate two different players in that role throughout the game — third-round rookie Brandon Coleman from TCU and veteran tackle Cornelius Lucas.

Frankly, that's a terrible idea – and the Buccaneers could benefit from it. It remains to be seen what Quinn meant by that, as he could also be referring to 3 OT sets in certain packages, but if he does plan on rotating two different players at LT positions, the team could suffer greatly from a lack of consistency and – if that's even necessary – poor play.

If the Commanders do indeed plan to use two different left tackles at different points in this game, Tampa Bay's edge rushing room with Yaya Diaby and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka could be in for a big game. Diaby is coming off a stellar year with 7.5 sacks, while Tryon-Shoyinka is hoping for a comeback season after Tampa Bay did not pick up his fifth-year option, so this could be just the opportunity he's looking for.

The Buccaneers are looking to start this year with a big win, but they can't let even such odd decisions get to them. Head coach Todd Bowles will have his team ready to go on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. to try and get their first win of the year as quickly as possible.
