Final preparations for the presidential debate between Harris and Trump in Philadelphia are underway

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Final preparations are underway at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

It's on everyone's lips as the city prepares for the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

“There is so much history here that I think there is no better place for it than Philly,” said Ankita Prasad of Center City.

Tensions are rising throughout the city as the debate approaches. It is scheduled to take place on September 10 at 9 p.m.

Voters are talking about a decisive moment in this election.

“Kamala hasn't really been to a debate yet. He (Trump) has been to the most debates of any presidential candidate, so he has experience, but I think she will still do well,” said Craig Thomas of Queen Village.

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the interior and exterior of the National Constitution Center. 6abc has partnered with ABC News to host the event.

For voters, the candidates’ policy plans and goals for their first year in office are of utmost importance.

“I really want to talk about immigration, of course everyone does. About the economy, about tax cuts,” said Nick Bosshardt of Ridley.

But what voters really want to hear is a clear dialogue between Trump and Harris.

“I don't care so much about what they discuss as much as I care that they give legitimate answers. I want to hear answers to the questions that are actually being asked,” Josh Salmon explained.

Streets have already been temporarily closed for the debate. Starting Tuesday, September 10, streets from Arch Street to Market Street between 4th and 7th Streets will be closed.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic is permitted on 4th Street and Market Street.

The 6th Street exit on I-676 eastbound will also be closed starting Tuesday morning.

I-676 westbound is expected to remain open but may be closed if necessary.

No one is permitted to enter these secured restricted areas. Arch Street and Race Street will remain closed for the entire duration of the event.

The closures will remain in effect until the event site is cleared, which is expected to happen on Wednesday.

Employees working within the containment zone should enter their building through an entrance at the corner of 7th and Arch Streets.

“The ABC News Presidential Debate | Race for the White House” airs September 10 at 9 p.m. The show will air on ABC and stream on the 24/7 streaming networks ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu.
