911: Lone Star fans devastated after Rob Lowe series canceled after five seasons

The announcement that 911: Lonely Star was cancelled and left fans devastated.

The Fox drama, a spin-off of 911focuses on first responders in Austin, Texas. It stars Rob Lowe and Gina Torres and has been running since January 2020.

Deadline reported today (September 5) that the upcoming fifth season of the series will be the last.

The news sparked grief on social media. A fan account, @Save911LoneStar, had campaigned for the show to survive. wrote: “I know this is not the news we wanted and I wish more than ANYTHING that it wasn't true, but now is the time to mourn our show, the show that gave us so much, that meant so much to us, and the characters that allowed us to know ourselves and become part of our lives.”

Another fan added: “I can't say I'm surprised, but I'm still disappointed. I absolutely loved Lone Star and while I'm sad that it won't be the usual 18 episodes, especially after this super-long delay, I'm excited to see how the story of 126 turns out.”

The final season of the series will consist of 12 episodes starting September 23rd and will have a series finale in early 2025.

Another fan reacted to the message with Write: “I am so disappointed,” while one expressed his sadness at the loss of a diverse show Add: “It is worrying that several shows featuring LGBTQ characters are being canceled.”

One wrote simply: “God, I hate Fox.”

911 also left Fox last year but now airs on ABC. 911: Lonely Star is instead cancelled completely.

In a statement, Michael Thorn, president of the Fox TV Network, said: “From the beginning, fans have followed the heroic and deeply moving stories of the men and women who make up Austin's 126, so a huge thank you to one of the greatest creative teams in all of television – Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear – for creating one of the most action-packed dramas ever.”

“Now, in our final season of the show, we can give her the thrilling send-off she deserves, complete with heart-pounding rescues, insurmountable obstacles and relatable personal struggles, thanks to our unrivaled all-star cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.”

Former star Liv Tyler left the show in September 2020 after raising concerns about flying during the coronavirus pandemic, having previously commuted from London.
