Who won the awards for Best Guest Actor and Best Guest Actress?

There’s a new group of top-notch guest actors and actresses in town!

On Sunday, September 8, four actors won trophies at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys for their guest roles in their respective comedy and drama series.

From winning their first-ever Emmy to looking back at the time they spent seven years selling “yogurt that makes you puke,” here’s who won the prestigious awards—and what they said afterward.

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series: Néstor Carbonell

Carbonell won the first guest actor trophy of the evening for his role as Vasco Rodrigues in FX’s Shogun. The historical drama series, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by James Clavell, is about two ambitious men from different parts of the world and their unlikely alliance as one of them fends off opponents plotting to overthrow him.

After they entered the stage, Lost The 56-year-old alumnus was quick to thank his wife Shannon. “Shannon is an actress who has worked in this industry for 25 years in film, television and theater. When our second son was born, she retired from the industry and devoted herself full-time to motherhood so I could pursue what I love to do,” he said. “I share that with you, darling.”

Carbonell also thanked his manager, his agent and the team behind Shogun“You're all here. You're all love. Thank you for your incredible talents,” he said, later adding, “I love this team sport and I'm so glad we can be here together. Thank you all so much. I appreciate it.”

In the press room, Carbonell also expressed his gratitude for the prestigious award, describing the moment as “coming full circle.”

“It's overwhelming. You work as an actor as long as I have and the role is a gift… some years are good and some years you just try to cobble together,” he said. “And I know we go through a tough time together in this industry and so you're grateful when you're working. But to get something like this, I don't think about it, but it means a lot to me especially because my first job on TV was a guest star on Law and order. And today we come full circle, because as soon as I am finished with the awarding or presentation of these three awards, I have to get on a plane – I get to get on a plane to direct an episode of law and order. Alex Hall is covering for me for the first take of the morning, but this is incredibly meaningful for me and a very rounded ending. Thank you.”

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series: Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis thrilled the audience as Donna Berzatto in The bear, and won Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Her character is the mother of Carmen, Sugar and Mikey. She struggles with alcoholism and what appears to be borderline personality disorder – something that becomes very clear in the episode “Fishes” while Donna is preparing Christmas dinner.

As Curtis, 65, took the stage after her name was announced, she told the crowd: “You know, there's a saying, 'Hurt people hurt people,' but I think you can also say, 'I helped people help people,' and I think that's the story of The bear.”

“It's amazing that I've been given this opportunity at this time in my life,” she continued, before calling the show's cast and crew “the ingredients of this beautiful, beautiful, beautiful piece of television… that I'm privileged to be a part of.”

Curtis later expressed her gratitude in the press room, telling reporters that she felt like “the luckiest girl in the world” after winning the prestigious award. She also looked back on her time starring in the Activia yogurt commercials and joked about how far she has come since then.

“I've been an actress since I was 19. I'm 65,” she said. “I've been selling yoghurt that makes you vomit for seven years. And I never thought I'd be able to do work that's so deep, complex and intelligent. And getting these opportunities has just been the highlight of my creative life over the last few years. So I'm humbled and incredibly grateful.”

When asked if he would one day reach EGOT status, Curtis brushed aside the possibility – at least for now.

“Well, I can't sing at all and I've never actually been on stage. I've never been in a play, so I can't imagine it,” she replied. “I don't stay up that late… I don't know if any of you ever paid attention to what I said, but at my age, if concerts go on that long and why can't Bruce Springsteen do a damn matinee?”

“I'm not sure I would be as successful in the theater, since you go to bed so late,” she joked. “But you know what? I never thought something like this would even be possible in my life.”
