Orange County Drug-Free Community Coalition celebrates its 25th anniversary

The Drug-Free Community Coalition of Orange County, a division of Orange County government, will celebrate its 25th anniversary of serving the residents of Orange County on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lake Eola Park. The “Live Fest” will recognize the contributions of community partners in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders.

“For the past quarter century, the Orange County Drug-Free Community Coalition has worked to create a healthier Orange County,” said Dr. Thomas Hall, manager of the Orange County Drug-Free Community Coalition. “I am proud to be part of a community committed to evidence-based substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery.”

Speakers at the ceremony will include former U.S. Senator and Orange County Mayor Mel Martinez. In 1999, then-Mayor Martinez led the initiative to form the Drug-Free Community Coalition of Orange County in response to an alarming number of overdoses in Orange County.

“During his tenure as Mayor of Orange County, Senator Martinez recognized the value of community leaders and volunteers working together to promote a healthier community. Twenty-five years later, the coalition remains critical to Orange County government's commitment to the health and well-being of the county's residents,” said Dr. Hall.

Live Fest also features pet adoption opportunities through Orange County Animal Services' Paws 4 Recovery program, live performances, food trucks, information booths from community organizations and businesses, and children's activities such as face painting, games and an arts and crafts area.

Local organizations that would like to have a table for the event can apply by completing the Vendor Participation Form no later than September 10, 2024. Organizations must bring their tables, tents and chairs. The form can be found at this link:
