Pastor and wife from Tennessee die after car accident

By GRACE THORNTON, The Baptist Paper

In recent days, Kirk Baptist Church in Piperton, Tennessee, has had to disclose things it never intended to disclose: that its pastor, Bobby Mullins, was killed in a car accident on Wednesday, September 4, and that his wife, Wanda, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital the following day.

But in recent days, the community and family have been sharing other words, words they've heard the couple say before. In the latest Facebook post, one person after another shared their memories of the Mullinses and their faith.

“I know as he passed through the gates of heaven, Brother Bobby said in his own words, ‘WELL GLORY!'” one poster read.

Bobby Mullins served as a minister for more than 40 years, most of that time as senior minister. Wanda Mullins, who worked as health unit coordinator at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, played piano and keyboard in the churches where her husband served over the years.

When Bobby Mullins was pastor of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, he started a biweekly television program called “In Times Like These.” He later started another television program, “A Fresh Start,” which still airs today.

A little over a week ago, he posted a two-minute clip from one of his 2008 sermons titled “Living Like You’re Dying” on A Fresh Start’s YouTube page.

The cover photo of Kirk Baptist's Facebook page – posted in 2022 – also raises the question: “If you were to die today, where would you spend eternity?” The photo used in the design is a photo of a car accident.

The Mullins family posted on Facebook on September 5, asking anyone reading their update to “take a moment to evaluate where you are in your relationship with Jesus Christ.”

“This is not the time to be lukewarm in our faith. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, we have several friends and pastor friends who would be happy to help you make that decision today. … Please do not wait.”
