Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes reunite after Trump drama at US Open

Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday, where she watched the men's final of the US Open while dispelling rumors that she and fellow player's wife Brittany Mahomes had fallen out.

Swift and her football boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, arrived hand in hand in their box shortly before the finale began. The Mahomes – Brittany and her husband Patrick, the Chiefs quarterback – arrived a little later.

Swift and Mahomes were all smiles as they were photographed hugging as they greeted each other, dispelling speculation of a budding feud sparked by reports that the two watched the Chiefs' season-opening game against the Baltimore Ravens from separate suites on Thursday. The Chiefs beat Baltimore 27-20.

Normally the two are inseparable at Arrowhead Stadium (and increasingly outside of it), and fans were quick to recognize the newfound distance and connect it to the minor online uproar Mahomes caused late last month when she “liked” one of Donald Trump's Instagram posts.

The Aug. 13 post listed Trump's campaign promises, including “Keep men out of women's sports” and “Cut federal funding to any schools that push critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate racist, sexual, or political content on our children.”

Mahomes has since removed the like and saved it in screenshots for posterity. She stopped following Trump on Sunday. But she appears to be fending off broader accusations about her political leanings, posting in her Instagram story that “to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep-rooted issues that you refuse to heal since childhood.”

Even Trump himself got involved, thanking “the wonderful Brittany Mahomes for her staunch defense” in a tweet on Wednesday.

As expected, Swift's camp remained silent on the issue. Although the 34-year-old pop singer has historically been reticent to voice her political views, she seemed to turn a new leaf in 2018 when she endorsed two Democratic candidates in the midterm elections in her home state of Tennessee.

In 2020, when her documentary Miss America When the film was released, there was a scene in which Swift tearfully expresses regret over not helping Hillary Clinton defeat Trump in 2016. Later that year, she criticized Trump and independently endorsed Joe Biden for president.

Swift has not endorsed any candidate for the 2024 presidential election – although the right-wing conspiracy theories surrounding her role in the race are much stranger this time around.

Then last week, Swift showed up in Kelce's box at Arrowhead Stadium, along with his parents Ed and Donna. Brittany Mahomes' notable absence was later explained by TMZ, who reported that she watched the game from another box reserved for her husband's friends and family.

A source close to the two women said The US Sun However, there is no truth to Mahomes' apparent banishment.

“They are very good friends and were really looking forward to the game, but they had different plans, as sometimes happens,” the insider said, insisting there was “zero tension” between the women.

“Brittany is a family person and Taylor likes to enjoy the game sometimes like it's a party,” they continued, adding that they hung out together both before and after the game.

“But Brittany preferred to play the first game of the season in a suite with her family and child, in a more relaxed atmosphere.”

The insider's claims are backed up by post-game posts on Mahomes' Instagram Story showing her on the field with her husband and one of their two children, 3-year-old Sterling. In addition, Mahomes – who is pregnant again – skipped the “intimate” after-party at a Kansas City cocktail bar attended by her husband Kelce and Swift, who got “a little drunk” at the party, according to Page Six.

Swift, who is taking a break from her Eras tour until next month, spent the weekend in New York City, where she was photographed with Kelce, dined at a pizza restaurant and attended the wedding of model Karen Elson.

According to The Athletic, the couple were in high spirits at the US Open, dancing and singing to The Darkness' “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” while Swift sipped a Honey Deuce and snuggled up to Kelce.

It was not immediately clear on Sunday evening whether Swift and Mahomes were together afterward Italian Jannik Sinner defeated American Taylor Fritz in the final. But fans and other interested parties don't have to wait long for further proof of the state of their relationship: the Chiefs' next game is just a week away.
