Team USA wins silver medal in women's wheelchair basketball

Rose Hollermann of Mankato led Team USA with 17 points, but the team lost the Paralympic gold medal game to the Netherlands 63-49 in Paris on Sunday. Three players on the U.S. team have ties to Minnesota.

This is the second Paralympic medal for Abby Bauleke of Savage and Josie Aslakson of Jordan and the third medal for Hollermann, who added a silver medal to her gold and bronze medals.

Throughout the tournament in Paris, Hollermann was one of the team leaders, averaging 15.5 points per game before the final against the Netherlands, as well as averaging 21 assists per game and 50 rebounds per game.

Aslakson averaged 14 rebounds per game and three assists, while Bauleke averaged three rebounds per game and a plus-minus of 24 per game.

All three athletes from Minnesota participated in every game of the Paris tournament.

The Dutch team won gold with a dominant performance at the Paris Paralympics, becoming the first Paralympians to win two consecutive gold medals in the sport since the USA in 2004 and 2008. The Dutch women won all their matches comfortably, including a 53-point victory over Japan.
