Sunday Night Football: Jahmyr Gibbs TD gives Lions a 10-3 halftime lead

The Lions and Rams traded blows on offense, but a Detroit touchdown late in the second quarter gave the home team a 10-3 halftime lead. Football on Sunday evening.

After Los Angeles failed to convert fourth-and-4 attempts from the Lions' 23-yard line, the Lions began their first touchdown drive with speedy Jameson Williams catching a 37-yard pass over the middle to put the Lions in Rams territory. While quarterback Jared Goff missed Williams deep in the middle of the field on the next play, running back Jahmyr Gibbs caught a screen pass for a 14-yard gain to the LA 27-yard line.

Williams left the game briefly after going down at the end of a 13-yard endaround, but was back in the game after a few plays. And Gibbs scored the game's first touchdown on a 1-yard run, spinning across the goal line for the touchdown with 1:57 left in the second quarter.

The Rams had a chance to score on a two-minute drive, but on second down and goal at the 8-yard line, quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a bad interception over the middle of the field to safety Kerby Joseph.

It was the second time the Rams advanced deep into Detroit territory without scoring in the first half.

Los Angeles has several injury concerns on offense, most notably Puka Nacua. The second-year wide receiver suffered a knee injury in the second quarter, attempted to come back and play, but was on the sideline as the Rams ended their two-minute drive.

The return of left tackle Joe Noteboom, who is playing for the suspended Alaric Jackson, is also questionable due to an ankle injury.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff has completed 7 of 10 passes for 75 yards. Williams has two catches for 37 yards, making him the team's best player. David Montgomery has nine carries for 35 yards — including a 3-yard run on fourth-and-2 — and Gibbs has five carries for 18 yards.

Stafford has completed 16 of 26 passes for 119 yards with one interception. Kyren Williams has five carries for 23 yards. Nacua has four catches for 35 yards, Cooper Kupp has six receptions for 30 yards and freshman Colby Parkinson has three receptions for 45 yards.

Rookie kicker Joshua Karty put the Rams on the scoreboard with a 41-yard field goal, while Detroit's Jake Bates tied the score early in the second quarter with a 25-yard field goal.

The Rams manage 1 of 4 third downs, the Lions 2 of 5.

The kickoff for the second half takes place in Detroit.
