Who will win the 2024 Emmys? Here are PEOPLE's predictions

Television’s biggest night is upon us!

The 2024 Emmy Awards will take place on September 15th and this year's ceremony promises to be another star-studded night with plenty of healthy competition. The nominations alone were record-breaking. The bear's 23 nods surpassed the record for most nominations in the comedy category, previously held by 30 rocks, who earned 22 in 2009.

Dan Levy, who will host the show alongside his father Eugene Levy, tells PEOPLE that they approach the hosting job “from a completely different perspective.”

“My father and I are not stand-up comedians,” says the 41-year-old actor. “But we both work very hard. We want to create an atmosphere where you feel really welcome and celebratory.”

Eugene, 77, adds: “As this is our first time, we hope this year's show will provide enough laughs, charm, goodwill and love for the medium that got my son and me started in this business.”

Who will be the big winner? Here are PEOPLE Picks editor Tom Gliatto's predictions for the stars and series that will go home with a trophy on Sunday, Sept. 15, when the Emmys air live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

Outstanding comedy series: “The Bear”

Jeremy Allen White as Carmen in season 2 of “The Bear”.

Chuck Hodes/FX

This show about the ups and downs of chef Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) isn't really a comedy – but you can't just send her back to the kitchen, can you? Season 2 caused a storm of tears and stress, especially with a brilliant episode that also featured nominee Jamie Lee Curtis as Carmy's over-excited mom. Season 1 took home 10 trophies – season 2's doggy bag will be heavy too.

Outstanding limited or anthology series: “Baby Reindeer”

Richard Gadd as Donny, Jessica Gunning as Martha in Baby Reindeer.

Ed Miller/Netflix

Star Richard Gadd's harrowing account of his nightmarish tango with a stalker (Jessica Gunning) was the most talked-about show of the year – a haunting, sometimes excruciating study of sexual torment.

Outstanding drama series: “Shogun”

Eita Okuno as Saeki Nobutatsu, Anna Sawai as Toda Mariko, Hiromoto Ida as Kiyama Ukon Sadanaga in Shogun.

Katie Yu/FX

The 25-nominated series about a secret but brutal dynastic struggle in 17th century Japan is one of the best television productions of recent years. Boldly epic in scale yet exquisitely detailed, it sometimes seems to emerge from the mists of the past.

Shogun should also win the major acting awards. Hiroyuki Sanada is magnificently masterful as Lord Yoshii Tornaga, who combines lofty integrity with cruel cunning. Anna Sawai, as a translator for an English sailor (Cosmo Jarvis), is both a romantic heroine and the thrilling embodiment of a feudal code of honor.

Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series: Jean Smart, “Hacks”

Jean Smart in “Hacks”.

Jake Giles Netter/Max

Jean Smart has already won twice for her outstanding performance – funny, tough, vulnerable – as the comedian who reaches for (and finally grabs) the gold ring on the late-night show. This is the third award.

Outstanding Reality Competition: “The Traitors”

Alan Cumming hosts “The Traitors”.

Euan Cherry/Peacock)

Hosted with much hilarious enthusiasm by nominated Alan Cumming, this silly, suspenseful game of swindle set in a Scottish castle is one of the few reality shows to evoke the familiar word “joy”.
