Charges against suspect in Burrillville teenager's death upgraded to murder

WOBURN, Massachusetts – The Massachusetts man who police say was involved in the death of a 17-year-old Burrillville girl is now charged with first-degree murder.

Shane Curry, 20, of Stow, Massachusetts, was initially charged with assault on a household member and assault with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily harm before prosecutors upgraded the charges last week.

Curry is accused of stabbing 17-year-old Nevaeh Goddard of Burrillville, whose body was discovered during an investigation at his home in April. Police say Curry prevented officers from entering the home for more than two hours before he was discovered in a gruesome manner.

The teenager was reportedly dating Curry and living in the house.

Goddard previously lived in Burrillville with her grandfather, Michael Simmons. She was reported missing by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

At his arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court on Wednesday, September 4, Curry was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
