SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA – We’ve rounded up the stories you may have missed over the holiday weekend to help prepare you for the week ahead.

But before we dive into the biggest news from Southern California, residents should prepare for hot weather to continue Monday before temperatures begin to drop, according to the National Weather Service.

“The dangerous heat wave will continue across much of Southern California through Monday before cooler temperatures sweep across the region,” NWS Los Angeles meteorologists wrote Monday. “Temperatures will be below normal in many areas through the end of next week. Dry conditions are expected throughout the coming week.”

In other news, several wildfires were reported over the weekend during a record-breaking heat wave in Southern California, including the Line Fire in San Bernardino County. The blaze burned 7,900 acres on Sunday despite being 0 percent contained. Authorities say firefighters have been injured, evacuations have occurred and over 35,000 structures are at risk.

After power outages were reported during the scorching heat wave, utility workers worked around the clock to restore power.

In a city in Los Angeles County, dozens more homes affected by the ongoing earth movements will be without power on Monday, adding to the distress of residents who are at risk of losing their homes entirely due to the landslide.

A toddler died after being locked in a car in temperatures below 30 degrees, authorities said.

Police were seeking information on a series of shotgun shootings in San Diego. The attacks were being investigated as hate crimes.
