Kate Middleton completes chemotherapy after ‘tough’ nine months

Kate Middleton has finished her chemotherapy. On Monday, the Princess of Wales released a video of herself with Prince William and her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, providing an update on her health.

“Summer is coming to an end and I can't tell you what a relief it is to finally be finished with my chemotherapy,” she says in the video. “The last nine months have been incredibly hard on us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we've had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and the unknown path.”

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for anyone, especially those closest to you,” she adds. “With humility, you also confront your own vulnerabilities in ways you've never considered before, and it gives you a new perspective on everything.”

The posted video shows Middleton taking a walk through a green forest with her family, among the trees and greenery. In the voiceover, Middleton talks about how the difficult months allowed her and Prince William to “be grateful” for things they once took for granted, including their love.

“I'm now focused on doing everything I can to stay cancer-free,” she continues, sharing that she'll be attending several more public events over the next few months. (This summer she made several public appearances, including at Wimbledon and at a parade for King Charles' birthday.) “Although I've completed chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”

Middleton thanked people for their support during this time and said she has drawn “great strength” from the messages of love. She also expressed her support for people currently battling cancer, writing: “Out of darkness can come light, so let that light shine bright.”

“Despite everything that has happened before, I begin this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and a greater appreciation for life,” she continues in the clip.

Middleton announced in late March that she had been diagnosed with cancer, several months after being hospitalized for abdominal surgery. She disappeared from public view for several weeks, prompting fans to theorize about her health.

“This was obviously a huge shock,” Middleton said at the time. “And William and I have done everything we can to process and deal with this privately for the benefit of our young family.”
