Edgar Berlanga lashes out at Oscar De La Hoya for belittling Saturday's fight and the likelihood of a PPV

It's no secret that Oscar De La Hoya, former promoter of Canelo Alvarez, has been pretty damning about this Saturday's fight between Canelo and Edgar Berlanga. The Golden Boy boss called the upcoming fight a “boring fest” and De La Hoya has publicly stated that the fight – which you, US fight fans, can buy for $90 – will be a flop and “won't reach more than 100,000 households” in terms of pay-per-view buys.

It's nasty, for sure. And while Canelo hasn't responded to his former promoter's words (at least not publicly), Berlanga has. And the undefeated puncher, who assures us he's going to “knock the hell out of Canelo,” has taken down De La Hoya.

“I am the PPV king and Canelo [Vs.] “Berlanga will not include more than 100,000 households,” De La Hoya wrote, adding: “Nobody is paying $90 for this boring party. As always, I am just stating the facts.”

To which Berlanga replied venomously:

“You're someone that a lot of fighters looked up to. You're a motherfucker, @OscarDeLaHoya.”

Did De La Hoya go too far with his criticism of Saturday's fight or is the former multi-weight champion completely right?

Berlanga is not the guy we wanted to see Canelo fight; that guy is, of course, David Benavidez. But we get what we get on Saturday night, and that is 34-year-old Canelo, who may be ready to get beat by a young and hungry puncher, against 27-year-old Berlanga, a young and hungry puncher.

Will it be a good fight on Saturday? Will the fight surpass the 100,000 PPV buys predicted by De La Hoya? Will YOU be watching?

Sometimes a big upset in boxing happens when there aren't many fans there to watch the fight live. Could this be the case on September 14? Maybe.
