Crime story from the weekend: Man charged for stomping on a man's head in an alley; Man charged for carrying a gun near a mall; Woman charged for hitting another person in the head with a rock

Ethaniel Pherigo, 19, was charged with aggravated assault for repeatedly kicking a man in the head during an incident on September 8.

According to Josh Racki of Cascade County, the victim is not expected to survive, but if he does, the state will amend the charges accordingly.

Police are still investigating the incident but have identified the victim and notified his next of kin. The identification took some time because the suspects took the victim's belongings and he was found without identification, Racki said.

Great Falls Police officers responded to a report of a possible disturbance around 10 p.m. on September 8 and were dispatched to the alley behind the City Bar at 709 Central Ave.

When officers arrived on scene, a bar employee said there was a fight between a group of about eight people and then walked down the alley with a suspect named EB, who Racki said is 14 years old.

According to charging documents, officers went down the alley in the direction where EB had been seen and found an unconscious man lying in a pool of blood.

According to court documents, the victim was taken to the emergency room with blunt force trauma to the head.

Officers searched the area for people matching the witnesses' descriptions and found the property manager of the nearby apartments. The manager had video of the incident that shows the victim walking down the alley with EB and a group of young adults walking behind him. The video shows the group throwing the victim to the ground and two men stomping on his head, according to court documents.

The video shows Pherigo stomping on the victim's head while he was lying face down on the ground and then rummaging through his pockets while a second man continues to stomp on the victim's head, court documents state.

One of the men was identified as Pherigo, who was taken to the Cascade County Adult Detention Center on $250,000 bail.

Caleb Norrup, 29, was charged with illegal possession of dangerous drugs and two minor public order offences in connection with an incident involving an airsoft gun on September 7.

On September 7 at approximately 11 a.m., a caller reported to dispatch that a man was acting suspiciously and brandishing a rifle in the 1200 block of 9th Street South. The caller reported that the man, identified as Norrup, was pointing the rifle at passing cars in the area.

Great Falls Police officers were unable to locate the suspect at the time, but a few minutes later dispatch received another call about a man matching the same description near the mall carrying a long gun.

The caller told police she saw the man making erratic movements with the gun and aiming it around. She told police she was afraid the man might commit a mass murder in the mall, charging documents say.

While an officer was searching the area of ​​Scheels and Ross, a woman flagged him down and said she saw a man around the corner who appeared to be carrying a rifle.

The officer found Norrup and saw him pull out what looked like a gun from behind his back. The officer sounded his siren and yelled at Norrup, who ignored the officer.

Another officer observed Norup inserting a magazine into the rifle as he walked across 13th Street South toward the gas station.

An officer activated his siren and exited his vehicle with his service rifle, whereupon Norrup complied with the officer's instructions and placed the rifle he was carrying on the sidewalk.

Norrup told officers he found the rifle in a bush and wanted to play with it because it was a toy gun, charging documents state. Norrup said he did not specifically point the gun at anyone, but was just “playing SWAT.”

The officer could smell alcohol on Norrup, court documents show. He has an outstanding city warrant for his arrest for disturbing the peace and several other misdemeanor convictions.

When officers searched his belongings, they found methamphetamine.

Nevaeh Decelles-Guardipee, 18, was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and minor possession of intoxicating substances while under 21 for an incident Sept. 8 in the 500 block of 5th Avenue South.

According to court documents, Decelles-Gardipee, angry about a vehicle, approached the victim, pushed him to the ground, hit him on the head, then picked up a large rock and hit him on the head with it.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage and spoke to witnesses who confirmed the victim's statement.

Officers found Decelles-Gardipee hiding under a staircase in the block and arrested her. She appeared to be intoxicated and admitted to drinking, but denied hitting the victim with a rock, court documents show.

Decelles-Gardipee was unresponsive during her arrest and told officers she had taken six fentanyl pills. Emergency responders administered Narcan to her and she was taken to the hospital, where she refused treatment.

District attorneys wrote in their indictment that they would normally seek bail for her because she lives next door to the victim, but they cited her and released her on her own bail because of the medical emergency. She has three other criminal cases pending against her, according to court documents.
