Death of 8-year-old by quad bike shocks Kentucky diocese

An 8-year-old Park Hills girl died in an all-terrain vehicle accident this weekend, leaving many people with ties to the local Catholic community in deep sadness.

Emma Haacke, daughter of Erin and Alexander Haacke, died Saturday at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the Hamilton County Coroner's Office said.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. Saturday on a family farm in Owen County, north of Jonesville, according to the Owen County Sheriff's Office. The accident remains under investigation.

Father Philip Devous of St. Charles Borromeo and St. Rose of Lima parishes posted a prayer request on Facebook on Sunday. He said Emma's father and brother were also injured in the accident.
