Israel Police Issues New Policy to Combat Violent Crime and Gangs – Crime in Israel

In a recent raid by investigators from the National Unit for Combating Economic Crime, one and a half kilograms of explosives for bomb-making were seized from the compound of a crime family in Ramle.

This operation was part of the police's 'Emergency Brakes' initiative, approved by the newly appointed Police Commissioner RN Danny Levi. On the instructions of the Police Commissioner, all police units and districts were instructed to give the highest priority to combating serious crime.

If there are indications of suspected possession of weapons and war material, immediate intervention is required to stop criminal activities and their economic networks.

The focus is on combating serious violent crimes and demolishing illegally used buildings and facilities.

How successful is the operation?

In less than a week since the operation began, 711 suspects have been interrogated, 615 arrested and 133 potentially lethal weapons seized.

The police seized 74 pistols, 20 M-16 rifles, 23 grenades, 11 explosive devices and, as mentioned above, 1.5 kg of explosives for making projectiles.

In addition, 14 illegal buildings were demolished and over four million shekels and half a million dinars were seized, which are suspected of being linked to criminal activities and are now to be confiscated.
