Deputies arrest minor in connection with Robeson County murder investigation

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – Last week, a minor was taken into custody in connection with a murder investigation in Robeson County.

The Robeson County Sheriff's Office said 18-year-old Damien Colton Chavis of Scotland County was found dead on the side of the road on East 7th Street last Thursday morning.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol believed Chavis had been struck by a car. In a preliminary investigation by the RCSO, the two agencies decided to turn over the investigation to the Sheriff's Homicide Unit.

RCSO said Monday that the teen turned himself in to investigators and will be charged in connection with the incident. It is unclear what charges he faces or the cause of Chavis' death.

The suspect is currently being held without bail at the Cumberland Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
