Death leaves an “undeniable hole in our hearts”

Rich Homie Quan's family remembers the rapper with much love. On Monday, just days after his death at the age of 33, the family of the “Type of Way” rapper released a moving tribute.

“On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Lamar family lost our beloved son, brother, father and friend,” the statement reads, which was signed with People. “Dequantes Devontay Lamar, known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, was a proud native of the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented the A-Crew as he traveled the world with his music.”

“Although he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we take comfort in knowing that his music and triumphant spirit live on,” the statement continued. “Quan's legacy will forever be enshrined as the soundtrack of our lives. And for that, we are grateful.”

Quan's family concluded their statement by saying that funeral details would be announced at a later date and thanked everyone for their “kind words and support during this difficult time.”

Rolling Stone confirmed Quan's death last week through a family member and the Fulton County Coroner. His cause of death remains under investigation.

Dozens of fans and celebrities, including Quavo, Playboi Carti and Lil Duval, paid tribute to the rapper. “May God be with us, we never saw this when we were apart [sic] of our journey,” Quavo wrote in an Instagram story, sharing an old photo of Migos next to Quan in the studio.
