International manhunt for man who poured hot coffee on toddler

An international manhunt is currently underway for a suspect who is said to have poured boiling hot coffee over a toddler in a park in Australia late last month.

According to Queensland Police, the coward attacked the toddler at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner around midday on August 27.

A man then approached a family with whom he had no relationship, poured hot liquid on the child and fled the scene.

According to a Queensland Police press release, emergency services were called and the toddler was taken to hospital with “severe burns.”

The child was later released from the hospital.

Detectives from the Morningside Child Protection Investigation Unit identified the suspect as a 33-year-old “foreign national.”

Queensland police said the suspect had since fled Australia.

An arrest warrant was issued against him for “intentionally causing grievous bodily harm,” said Paul Dalton of Queensland Police.

Dalton described the attack on the toddler as the “most cowardly” he had ever experienced in his decades-long career.

“I have seen many heinous acts. But when you look at the situation, I can't think of anyone who would be more vulnerable and vulnerable than a young mother with a baby sitting on the floor,” Dalton said.

The ministry is working with national and international partner agencies on the investigation.

A friend of the family has now set up a GoFundMe page to help the infant recover.

The site said that the child had “a long recovery period ahead of him, which would require further doctors, specialists and [and] hospital appointments.”
