iPhone can now pause videos during recording instead of ending them

Apple is bringing a new feature for iPhone videographers with the upcoming release of iOS 18. The new update will allow users to pause and resume video recordings right from the stock Camera app. This means that the iPhone video pausing feature will be available natively to all users.

This means you don't have to stop a video recording every time you don't want to record part of an experience and stitch it together later in a third-party application.

This feature will be available on older iPhone models compatible with iOS 18, not just the new iPhone 16 lineup.

When recording a video, users will notice a new pause button in the bottom left corner of the Camera app.

Tapping this button will pause recording temporarily, tapping again will resume recording. While paused, a “PAUSE” indicator will appear at the top of the screen and the pause button will become a record button.

Users can now pause recording, change the frame or switch lenses and then resume or, more simply, make edits while recording.

The video pausing feature is currently available in the iOS 18 release candidate for developers and public beta testers. It will be made available to all users when iOS 18 is officially released on September 16, 2024.
