Johnny Gaudreau's wife Meredith thanks Jimmy Hayes' widow for her support

Johnny Gaudreau's wife, Meredith Gaudreau, is grateful for the support she received following Johnny's death.

On Monday, September 9, the late hockey player's widow shared words of encouragement from Jimmy Hayes' wife, Kristen Hayes.

Johnny, 31, and his brother Matthew, 29, who also plays hockey, were killed on August 29 when a suspected drunk driver collided with them. The brothers were riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, the night before their sister Katie's wedding.

“We are members of a club that no one wants to be in,” Meredith wrote in her Instagram stories. “I love you, Kristen.”

Kristen shared a post about Meredith's eulogy at Johnny's funeral, writing, “I am so proud of you Meredith. I am so glad I found the strength to speak at Jimmy's memorial service.”

“Some days I have no idea how we do it, but we do it. I know every single emotion you feel today and every day after that. You are incredible,” she continued.

Kristen's first husband died in 2021 at the age of 31, just three months after the couple welcomed their second son, Mac.

The mother of three, who has since married Evan Crosby, who is also widowed, expressed her sadness over the deaths of Johnny and Matthew.

“Unimaginable news this morning. Heartbroken. There are no words,” she wrote at the time, alongside a broken heart emoji.

Meredith and the Columbus Blue Jackets star have a seven-month-old son, Johnny, and a daughter, Noa, who will turn two in October.

Matthew's widow Madeline Gaudreau is also expecting the couple's first child.

In her speech at her husbands' funeral, Madeline told Meredith, “I promise that I will always be here for you and the children, and that together, hand in hand, we will honor the lives of our husbands alongside their families and friends.”
