Officials say Lake City-area school is falsely linked to Florida threat

LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) — A social media post that triggered heightened alert in Florence School District 3 Monday morning was mistakenly linked to an incident in Florida, officials said.

“Law enforcement in Madison County, Florida has identified a suspect in the social media threat. This individual is a 13-year-old Madison County juvenile who was taken into custody by the Madison County Sheriff's Office,” the county said on its Facebook page. “The threat is believed to have been directed at a school in Lake City, Florida.”

Florence School District 3, the third largest in the county, includes Lake City Early Childhood School of Arts and Lake City Early College High School.
