Former first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars signs with the Las Vegas Raiders

Former Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick K'Lavon Chaisson lands with a new team.

According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, Chaisson is signing with the Las Vegas Raiders. He went through training camp with the Carolina Panthers before being released before Week 1.

Chaisson was the Jaguars' first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, selected with the number 20 overall pick. Chaisson was one of two players the Jaguars drafted with first-round picks from the Jalen Ramsey trade, along with running back Travis Etienne.

Chaisson ending up with the Raiders for the foreseeable future could mean the Jaguars face their former pass rusher in the 2024 season. The Jaguars weren't scheduled to play the Panthers, but the Jaguars have the Raiders on their schedule in Week 16, and the Jaguars will make a road trip out West in December 2022.

There's always the possibility that Chaisson will only be on the roster for a few weeks while the Raiders get their defensive line back in shape, but this is a potential rematch to mark your calendar.

In four years with the Jaguars, Chaisson started 11 games and appeared in 57. He recorded five sacks, including a career-high two sacks in 2023. In four seasons, he also recorded 73 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits and two pass deflections.

Chaisson started three games as a rookie, playing 51% of the defensive snaps and recording one sack and nine quarterback hits. In 2021, his snap count decreased, playing 39% of the snaps and recording one sack and four quarterback hits in 15 games.

Due to injuries, Chaisson played only nine games in 2022, appearing in just 18% of the snaps and recording one sack and two quarterback hits as players like Dawuane Smoot and Arden Key took over a larger share of the pass-rush snaps.

Chaisson's role increased in 2023 when Smoot recovered from an Achilles injury and Key joined the Tennessee Titans as a free agent. This resulted in Chaisson playing 25% of the snaps and recording two sacks and eight quarterback hits in 17 games.

Of the 12 players the Jaguars selected in 2020, only DaVon Hamilton and Daniel Thomas remain in 2024.
