Authorities release emergency call from GR mother accused of murder

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – The Grand Rapids City Council has released a 911 call from a mother charged in the death of her 1-year-old daughter.

The child was found dead in her family's Eastern Avenue apartment on August 22. She was only 19 months old.

Police told FOX 17 that the girl weighed 15 pounds and they believe she was abused and neglected.

The girl's mother, 24-year-old Brooklynne Davis, was later identified as a suspect.

Davis called 911 around 5:20 p.m. the day her daughter was found dead. FOX 17 obtained an edited version of the call through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

Part of the call is transcribed below:

SHIP: How old is she?
DAVIS: She is 1. I woke up this morning and she was gone.
SHIP: I'm sorry, you said she was gone?
DAVIS: She died. I woke up this morning and she was gone. She died.
SHIP: You say she's dead?
DAVIS: Yes.

Davis added that her 8-year-old son checked on the girl early in the morning and said she appeared to be sleeping. She decided to let the toddler sleep a little longer, but when she returned to the room, the child was not moving.

Davis told the telephone operator that her daughter had apparently been missing for a few hours.

“No, she's not breathing. I tried CPR and everything,” she said.

The six-minute operation ended when the fire department arrived. Officials later said that the 19-month-old child could no longer be helped at that point.

The victim's twin brother was taken to hospital in critical condition. The 8-year-old was taken from the house.

Davis has since been charged with murder and child abuse. If found guilty, she could face up to life behind bars.
