ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill cannot be absolved of all blame for the situation with police officers in Florida that led to his arrest.

Miami-Dade police released bodycam footage of Hill's arrest, showing the intense moments, from officers initiating a traffic stop to Hill being pulled from the car and handcuffed as he lay on the ground near Hard Rock Stadium.

Smith expressed his opinion on the situation, saying neither the police officers involved nor Hill were immune from blame.

“As far as Tyreek Hill goes, we can't completely absolve him of responsibility either just because the police in Florida made a statement,” Smith said on ESPN's “First Take” on Tuesday. “They said he was 'uncooperative.' We have a responsibility on this show and on every platform we have to do everything we can to save lives, to make sure we do everything we can so that somehow, some way, you can live another day and fight this fight. We know how wrong they were. The police overstepped. No excuses. They should be ashamed of how they acted. They just overstepped. Absolutely true.

“Here's the thing – we all came on the air when we saw the first footage that showed the complete unadulterated support for Tyreek Hill. You pull over and they tell you to roll down your window. What's the first thing Shannon (Sharpe) was just talking about? The first thing they do when they pull us over. They pull me over and all my windows are down. My hands are on the wheel. That's not what Tyreek Hill did.

“Tyreek Hill had his window rolled up. The officer knocked on his window. He didn't knock on his window, he knocked on his window. You hesitate to roll it down. The first thing you say is, 'Don't knock on my window like that.' He asked you for your license. You hesitated to give him your license. You said in the postgame conference, 'Hey, guys, what if I wasn't Tyreek Hill?' What if you weren't Tyreek Hill? What would have happened to you if someone who wasn't Tyreek Hill had rolled up the windows, hesitated to roll them down, didn't show the license immediately when asked for it, and then hesitated to get out of the car when you were told to get out?

“Look, we have to take responsibility. What I'm saying is this: The cops should not be excused in any way for what they did… But I'm also saying, 'Yo, Tyreek, yo, bro, you didn't deserve this. I'm not saying you deserved it. But the cops have the power. If they pull over and tell you to roll down the window, and they tell you to show them your license, and they tell you to get out of the car, that's what you have to do.'”

Hill told CNN on Monday night that he feared for his life during the incident but hoped to be a part of the change.

Drew Rosenhaus, the NFL wide receiver's agent, appeared on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” and said his client wanted to speak with Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels.

“Tyreek told me that as traumatic as the event was, he wanted to turn the negative into something positive,” Rosenhaus said.

Daniels assigned “administrative duties” to one of the officers involved in the incident.
