Mother of Montgomery College student asks for answers after her daughter's death

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – A mother is searching for answers months after her daughter's death. Her daughter, a college student here in Montgomery, was stabbed to death in her off-campus home.

Police have not yet made any arrests. Her mother wants to make sure that what happened to her daughter is not forgotten.

“I don’t even want to think about her not being here,” Danielle Luckett said.

It has been nearly two months since Luckett lost her 21-year-old daughter Tiana Dye.

She says Tiana was outgoing, fun-loving and ambitious. The Alabama State University student dreamed of becoming a dermatologist.

“She loved to make other people feel beautiful. She was like a rainbow. When you see it, you get excited and you just love it,” Luckett said. “She was that person.”

On July 14, Luckett says she received a call that Tiana had been stabbed and was being taken to the hospital. Before she could get from Georgia to Montgomery, she received news that Tiana had died.

“I was crying the whole time and I kept reminding myself to breathe. Just breathe, just breathe. I couldn't understand it. I couldn't comprehend that this was true,” she said.

Montgomery police are calling the case a death investigation. Police have not made any arrests yet, but say all evidence will be presented to a grand jury. Luckett says she wants justice for her daughter.

“It's unbelievable. I have to fight for her. You know, I have nightmares about seeing her lying there bleeding, trying to fight for her life, and there's nothing I can do,” Luckett said.

Luckett says she knows who stabbed her daughter. WSFA 12 News has requested the police report and other information on the case. MPD told us there are no new details to release and we are still waiting for a copy of the police report.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP or Montgomery police at 625-2831.
