Country star Darius Rucker pleads no contest in Tennessee drug trial

The musician and frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish pleaded no contest to the drug charges during his traffic stop earlier this year.

Darius Rucker appeared in a Williamson County courtroom on Tuesday.

On February 19, Rucker was stopped because his license plate had expired.

An officer reported that he noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside the car.

After a probable cause search, a THC pen and 14 unmarked purple pills were found.

The “Wagon Wheel” singer was charged with simple possession, casual exchange and violation of the registration law.

Seven months later, Rucker chose not to contest the charge of simple possession of a controlled substance and to drop the charge of violating the registration law.

Rucker must serve 11 months and 29 days of probation, which, if passed, will completely wipe the charges from his record.
