Trailer for “The Apprentice” shows new footage from the devastating, scandalous Trump film

“The first rule is attack, attack, attack.” A kaleidoscopic trailer for the new Donald Trump biopic/making story was released on Tuesday. The Apprenticewhich chronicles Trump's years as a relentless real estate magnate and Manhattan scenester under the tutelage of notorious lawyer Roy Cohn.

In the film Sebastian Stan plays Trump, with Consequence Emmy winner Jeremy Strong plays Cohn. The Apprentice premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where critics were amazed that it was not just a salacious, headline-grabbing attempt, but a genuine Oscar contender.”The Apprentice is an attempt to delve into the psyche of the man who became president during his formative years—and is now running again—and in Strong and Stan's portrayal, we begin to see something that hasn't already been rehashed countless times,” wrote The Daily Beast's Esther Zuckerman in her review.

But in the months following its premiere, the film was the subject of controversial discussions.

Trump's ruthlessness and the scenes in which he sexually assaults Ivana Trump roiled his campaign team, which threatened to file lawsuits that would, according to a spokesman, “take up the obviously false claims of these wannabe filmmakers.” (Director Ali Abbasi's response to the threat: “Everyone talks about him suing a lot of people – but they don't talk about his success rate, you know?”)

Dan Snyder, the billionaire former owner of the Washington Commanders, was a producer of the film. Since he was unhappy with the film's content, he has since sold his share.

The trailer for The Apprentice doesn't offer much in the way of plot, probably because we all know what happens to the aspiring, thirsty mogul with the weird haircut shown in the early scenes. Instead, we get soundbytes of Cohn's lessons, which are eerie considering the man we know today.

“Rule two,” says Cohn: “Admit nothing, deny everything.” And rule three? “No matter what happens, claim victory and never admit defeat.”

What follows is a sprint montage through scenes of Stan's Trump shaking hands, being demanding, and having sex with women. “You have to be willing to do anything to anyone to win,” Strong's Cohn says later in the trailer.

In his review of the film's screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, The Beast's Nick Schager wrote that the film “exposes the gruesome details about the source of his egomania, greed, ambition, vanity, sociopathy and callous rape addiction, the latter of which comes to the fore in a brutal attack on his first wife, Ivana.” It's perhaps no surprise that the film has become known as the movie Donald Trump doesn't want you to see.

The spooky ending of the trailer. Cohn says: “I say if you're impeached, you're invited.” Trump's response: “God bless America.”
