Leaked BPD bulletin spreads concern about school safety

A leaked internal Boise Police document is spreading on social media, raising concerns about safety at the community's schools.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office released an online statement in a social media post saying the information contained in the bulletin was intended for law enforcement officers to make them aware that the named individual has been released from custody and is now being monitored by ACSO parole officers.

The post goes on to explain that there is currently no legal reason to take this individual into custody. Online posters have raised concerns that this individual may potentially target schools in the area.

The bulletin intended for law enforcement states that the individual was detained for failing to comply with probation for a misdemeanor. While in custody, his cellphone was confiscated and several searches at schools revealed that he was in jail. This is a concern for law enforcement as they discovered that he had also watched several films about school shootings prior to his arrest.

The bulletin says the individual is being “closely monitored by law enforcement.” The ACSO statement says they do not require any assistance from the public at this time.

CBS2 has chosen not to release the bulletin or the identity of the individual because he has not committed any crimes related to this bulletin and to avoid further public interference with law enforcement. Boise Police told CBS2 that they were aware of the public distribution of the bulletin and that “the bulletin was sent to Boise schools out of an abundance of caution and to make their front-line personnel aware of the issue. The information shared was not intended for public release as there are no charges or warrants pending. Boise Police, our School Resource Officers and School District Security often work together to monitor potential threats. We are not asking for the public's assistance at this time.”
