Kamala Harris and Donald Trump argue in heated debate about abortion

Vice President Kamala Harris accused the former president Donald Trump will support a national abortion ban and monitor women's pregnancies and miscarriages as she defended women's reproductive rights during Tuesday's presidential debate.

Abortion law became a burning, prominent issue when the two candidates clashed at their first meeting.

Harris said a woman bleeding from a miscarriage or a child who survived incest may need access to an abortion, but doctors are reluctant to treat them because the procedure is criminalized in more than 20 states.

“The majority of Americans believe in a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body,” Harris said when she argued that her opponent would ban abortion nationwide as part of the 2025 projectcreated by the Heritage Foundation.

Trump denied that he would sign a national abortion ban or monitor pregnancies and repeatedly said he would not support Project 2025, even though several of his allies helped draft the plan.

“Well, there she goes again. It's a lie. I'm not signing a ban,” Trump replied. “And there's no reason to sign a ban. Because we got what everybody wanted,” referring to the end of Roe v. Wade.

Trump mocked Harris for her announcement that she would sign legislation if Congress restored Roe v. Wade protections.

“You know what that reminds me of? When they said they were going to cancel student loans, it ended up being a total disaster,” Trump said.

Host Linsey Davis educated Trump's reversal in his support for Florida's upcoming Amendment 4 Initiative which aims to enshrine the right to abortion in the constitution.

“In your home state of Florida, you surprised many with your six-week abortion ban because you initially said it was too short and you said, 'I'm going to vote to say we need more than six weeks.' But then the next day you changed course and said you would vote for the six-week ban,” Davis said, bringing up the abortion issue during the debate.

Trump responded by accusing Harris's vice presidential candidate of Tim Walzand Democrats support abortions in the ninth month of pregnancy and “postpartum execution.”

“The Democrats are radical in this,” Trump said.

Davis later checked his facts and said, “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after birth.”

Harris also denied that voluntary abortions were performed in the ninth month of pregnancy.

“Nowhere in America do we have women who carry a pregnancy to term and then ask for an abortion. That doesn't happen. It's an insult to the women of America,” Harris said.

Explaining his views, Trump said he supports exceptions to abortion in cases of rape, incest and saving the life of the mother.

“I firmly believe in it. Ronald Reagan they did,” Trump said.

He added that abortion needs to be decided at the state level, and that is exactly what has been happening since he performed a “great service” by helping to overturn the landmark Roe vs. Wade case.

“Every legal scholar, every Democrat, every Republican, liberal, conservative, they all wanted to get this issue back to the states where people can vote. And that's what happened,” Trump said. argue wrongly There was unanimity on this issue.

“Every single state votes. It's the voice of the people now. It's not tied to the federal government. I did a great service in doing that. It took courage to do that. And the Supreme Court had great courage to do that. And I give those six justices tremendous credit.”
