Ceremony to honor the heroes in Shanksville

Wednesday marks the 23rd anniversary of the day nearly 3,000 people were killed when 19 al-Qaida hijackers took control of four passenger planes. Two planes flew into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon and a fourth crashed into a field in Somerset County. Remembrance and memorial services are taking place at ceremonies across the United States, including at the attack sites in New York, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.Pittsburgh Action News 4 will stream today's Flight 93 memorial service live in the video player above as soon as it begins.The memorial service at the Flight 93 National Memorial begins at 9:45 a.m. and commemorates the moment when passengers and crew aboard the plane took action to thwart the hijackers' plans to fly the plane into a federal building in Washington, D.C. 40 passengers and crew members were killed.President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are expected to visit Shanksville on Sept. 11.Biden is expected to join the vice president in a wreath-laying ceremony at 12:45 p.m.Trump will land in Shanksville for a ceremony around 11 a.m. and then stop at a local fire station. There will be memorial services and processions at ceremonies across the United States, including at the attack sites in New York, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The ceremony at the Flight 93 National Memorial will begin at 9:45 a.m. and commemorate the moment when passengers and crew on board the plane took action to thwart the hijackers' plans to fly the plane into a federal building in Washington, DC.

Forty passengers and crew members were killed.

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are expected to visit Shanksville on September 11.

Biden is expected to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony with the Vice President at 12:45 p.m.

Trump will land in Shanksville around 11 a.m. for a ceremony and then stop at a local fire station.

All three are expected to stop at Ground Zero in New York City before the ceremonies in Pennsylvania.
