Case against Knox woman for accident under the influence of alcohol progresses

CLARION CO., Pennsylvania (EYT) — The case against a Knox woman charged with drunken driving and reckless driving following a car crash continued in court.

Court documents show the following charges against the 31-year-old Cassey Leann Messinafrom Knox were overturned in court during a hearing on August 27:

  • DUI: High alcohol content (Bac.10 — <.16 offense="" misdemeanor="">
  • DUI: General Impairment/Inability to Drive Safely – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
  • Driving at safe speeds, summary
  • Reckless driving, summary
  • Careless driving, summary
  • Failure to fasten seat belt — driver and front passenger, summary
  • Errors in keeping to the right, summary

Messina is free on his own recognizance.

The case was transferred to the Clarion County Court of Common Pleas.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, police arrived at the scene of the accident on Bus Mong Road at around 9:09 p.m. on July 11. Officers spotted a 2007 Hyundai that had come to a stop near a group of trees.

It later emerged that the driver of the crashed vehicle Cassey Messina who were transported by ambulance and then flown to DuBois Hospital, the complaint states.

The complaint states that, according to police, Messina crossed the center line and drove toward an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane before crashing into the trees.

At the hospital, Messina admitted to police that she had drunk three beers before the trip. Officers noticed that she smelled of alcohol and showed signs of intoxication. Messina agreed to have a blood test, the complaint states.

According to the complaint, Messina was interviewed by police by phone at around 3:38 p.m. on July 24. Messina said she had gone to a friend's house after drinking “two or three” beers at a local sports club.

The complaint notes that blood draw results showed Messina's blood alcohol content was 0.105%.
