Francine is the sixth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. Much of Louisiana and Mississippi could see 4 to 8 inches of rain, with some places able to get as much as 12 inches, said Brad Reinhart, a senior hurricane specialist at the hurricane center.

Francine's storm surge along the Louisiana coast could reach heights of up to 10 feet (3 meters) from Cameron through Port Fourchon to Vermilion Bay, meteorologists said. They said landfall would likely occur somewhere between Sabine Pass – on the Texas-Louisiana border – and Morgan City, about 220 miles (350 kilometers) to the east.
