“Mean Girls” star Lacey Chabert says her 8-year-old daughter asked, “What is fetch?”

Lacey Chabert's daughter isn't trying to fetch anything—in fact, she doesn't really understand what it is.

The Girls Club – Be careful, they bite! Actress, who played Gretchen Wieners in the 2004 film, appeared on Monday, September 9, in an episode of Today and spoke to Hoda Kotb, 60, about her new show Celebrating with Lacey Chabertwhich premieres tomorrow on Hallmark+.

While chatting about the series, Chabert, 41, was asked if her fans still quote her famous line from the film: “Stop trying to match 'fetch happen'” – and she revealed that her 8-year-old daughter Julia doesn't know why people kept saying that to her when she was younger.

“When she was younger, she always said, 'What's the point, why does everyone say that to you?'” Chabert recalled.

Now that she is a little older, Chabert's daughter has come to terms with the fact that her mother's films are actually quite popular.

“And a few years ago she asked, 'Mommy, do other people watch the movies you make?' I said, 'Yeah, baby, they're not just for you.'”

In March 2023, Chabert shared an adorable throwback photo of her then 6½-year-old daughter Julia. “This popped into my photo memories like it happened 6 years ago,” Chabert wrote alongside the sweet black-and-white snapshot.

“Where does the time go?!” she pondered. “My daughter is the light of my life and I can't wait to get home to hug her and kiss her on the cheeks exactly a million times!”

“Shooting these films on location is a very special experience and one that I am very grateful for, but there is no place like home 💜,” added the star, who has directed several films for Hallmark.

Despite her busy work schedule, the actress previously told PEOPLE that Julia is her main focus.

“My daughter is my top priority,” Chabert said in 2019. “I am fortunate and incredibly lucky that my family can travel with me most of the time.”

“I am a first-time mother and will figure it out as time goes on,” said the Group of Five Alum continued. “But Julia is the light of my life. I am very grateful that I can continue to work.”

Chabert added: “I hope to set an example for her and show her that you can achieve anything, but only with a lot of help and support!”
